Wen Chao’s careless dismissal of the Wei-boy’s boasts had once been a comfort, soothing her nightmares away. Three months in, the reassurances have grown stale.
He was supposed to bring her good fortune, this little lord of hers. Now it seems he'll just drag her down with him, because he really does believe all the stupid shit he's saying.
Well fuck him! Whatever ghost is haunting him, that has nothing to do with her; she’ll leave at first light, and good riddance to him!
But in her nightmares, the Wei-boy cackles.
And outside the wind carries a dead man’s tune.
