Wrote this months ago for this tumblr prompt for platonic & queerplatonic ships.

Fandom has been a bit exhausting lately with the hyperfocus on ships so I'm bringing it back with additions:

* The Strawhat Pirates in general, but I fell right into queerplatonic Merryship (aka the East Blue five) somewhere along the way and now I can’t get out. It’s fun, it’s sweet, it’s chaos incarnate and I live for AUs that have them all live together in a "eeeeh whatever works" kinda way ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

* Dirk Strider & Jane Crocker. Two-thirds of a love triangle going ‘you know in retrospect it is kinda silly to compromise our friendship for one dude maybe we should cool it’ is something I’ll never get tired of, especially since it virtually never happens. Also: protectiveness! weird inside jokes! common ground between wildly contrasting personalities! Very underrated, very good.

* Chouji & Shikamaru–look I’ve been in a Naruto mood again lately and. Low-pressure, mutually supportive friendship with zero conflict is Good. Sometimes it really is that simple.

* Playing Friendsim, I decided all on my own that Wanshi would pursue a sibling-like friendship with Karako out of sheer curiosity for this scrub who still visits the caves sometimes and I just really love the idea okay.

* When it comes to platonic relationship Leverage is always v. good, what with the actually explicit found family dynamic, but I have a massive crush on Sophie & Eliot specifically--any time they get to work with each other is gold. I feel like a lot of other shows would have played up their differences in a mildly antagonistic way and it makes me really happy there was none of that here.

What are your favourite platonic relationships, canon or headcanoned?

So I have a prompt for fluff, another for light-hearted stuff, and more importantly I really needed some cuteness. Have some recs.
Will be updated as I find more. If you read anything you do like please let the author know!

conditioner by floralathena (Stranger Things, Gen, 2018 words):
“This is a straightening iron. It can make your hair look more like mine, but only for a little bit. A couple hours to a couple days, depending on how you treat your hair before and after. It’s very hot. Don’t touch it.”
Jane nods very seriously. She’s touched a lot of hot things, on purpose and on accident, in the past few months. The straightening iron is lying on the counter, angled so that the hot bits are hanging over the sink. Steve’s hands rest on her shoulders as he stands behind her. He is making eye contact with her in the mirror. She looks a lot shorter than him because she’s sitting on a stool that he dragged in from the kitchen.

You know how sometimes a fic brings up a headcanon you never thought about before but instantly accept as your own? This is one of those. Steve teaches El basic hair care, and the result is too precious for words. Cute and funny with a great El voice.

Keeping Up by Delicate_Doll (Hiveswap, Tyzias/Stelsa, 1850 words):
"Babe- hold on I wanna run with you"
Your name is Tyzias Entykk, and you're just as surprised as Stelsa when that ungodly sentence comes out of your mouth. What's said is said though, and by the ecstatic look on her face, you don't think she'll accept take-backsies.
Tyzias makes a terrible mistake and has to see it through. I really like the narration here—Tyzias sounds a bit snarky, a bit put-upon, and completely baffled by her own life choices.

--

Peaceful Waters by AlphaShae (One Piece, Gen, 506 words):
Once nakama, always nakama.
Absolutely adorable ficlet in which Merry reflects on the journey so far and welcomes a very special member to the crew.

--

Poc’s Grand Day Out by MundaneChampagne (Mass Effect Andromeda, Gen, 988 words):
The Tempest is docked at the Nexus. Poc disembarks, determined to have an adventure of her own.
This one was an instant fave back when I first read it and it never fails to deliver—Poc has so much personality here, and she's clearly having a blast throughout!

--

Scenes from a Dojo by Angel_Negra (Leverage, Gen, 1537 words):
Eliot found a way to make his style work at Dalton Academy. It just worked a little too well.
Follow up to The Fairy Godparents Job in which Eliot keeps the self-defense lessons going. I'm always a sucker for missing scenes, and this is a pretty amazing one: very sweet, very funny, very true to canon.

For the Food & Cooking square of my trope bingo card! 11 15 fic recs all centered around food or cooking. About half of those are Sanji-centric One Piece fics b/c that's where my head has been lately, but there's also some Pushing Daisies, Leverage, Fire Emblem, Fallout 4, Hiveswap, Naruto.

Will be updated as I find more gems! In the meantime enjoy, and if you read anything you like don't forget to tell the author <3

20/04/21: 3 years down the line, this has been updated enough that this header is a bit silly but I'm keeping it for posterity. Many fic & art recs that are all about food and cooking, from p. much every fandom I've been into these past few years. Enjoy.

To the recs! )
Starting off with a recent fave! Despite the tags, Franky is only there for the first bit; the rest is all Sanji bonding with a young Fishman girl and her family, and it’s a fucking delight. Great OCs, great worldbuilding, great Sanji characterization.

A Day in the Life of A Cook by Sarcasticles (One Piece, Gen, 2957 words):
The Straw Hat Pirates have no idea how much it takes to feed them, and Sanji is determined to keep it that way
Pretty much exactly what the title offers: a day in Sanji’s life, complete with a lot of Straw Hat shenanigans and Luffy being. Luffy.

--

Felicia and Charlotte Support Conversation by mabariis (Fire Emblem Fates, Charlotte/Felicia, 988 words):
What if Intelligent Systems let more women talk to each other, and also could write decent gay content? I did it instead.
A support line for Charlotte and Felicia that progresses to S-rank.

Very cute canon-style fic (with sprites!) in which Charlotte offers cooking lessons and Felicia fails at them. A lot.

--

Four-letter Fruits by radio_silent (Pushing Daisies, Gen with background Chuck/Ned, 301 words):
At least Olive didn't wander around kitchens unemployed and unannounced.
In which Olive makes a valiant effort to be more family-friendly, and take the name of fruits in vain. Cute, funny, and delightfully in character for the whole cast.

--

Fried Squid by Konsui’s Little Brother (One Piece, Gen, 680):
When they got out of this part of the Grand Line, Zolo was never letting another piece of squid touch him again. For now though, he'd eat it with no complaint.
One of the first fic I read in the fandom, and still one of my favourites. A rough patch leaves the crew with limited food supplies, everyone grows tired of eating squid, and Zoro shows support in his own way.

--

Full Up on Foils by Anonymous (Homestuck, Gen, 2400 words):

Dirk can't cook real food, Jane is horrified by what he does attempt to eat, and a very tiny secret plot ensues. Mostly, it's just the beautiful feeling of friendship.

Dirk & Jane friendship fic with fantastic dialogue and a side dish of Earth C worldbuilding, feat. rock tea, knife-adjacent implements and the twenty-three essential sugars.

--

If You Want It Done Right by Angel_Negra (Leverage, Gen, 271 words):
A couple of firsts for Alec and Eliot.
Eliot sees Hardison’s kitchen, Hardison sees Eliot’s computer, and neither one is very happy with what he sees. Short, clever, and full of humour.

--

Insatiate by vageege (One Piece, Gen, 5682):
Sanji smokes cigarettes for a couple of reasons.
A look at Sanji, food, and the long-term consequences of starving as a child. Unlike every other rec on this list this one deals with some pretty heavy stuff so please mind the warnings in the author’s note.

--

Life Expectancy of Beautiful Cinnamon Roll Harshly Dropping by Arvanion (Fire Emblem Awakening, Gen, 101 words):
NEWS IN BRIEF - Local - Food - Issue 50-04 - Jan 24, 2014
This one is so short there’s not really anything I can say about it except that it fits right in with the silliest parts of the game, and at 101 words there’s really no reason for you not to give it a read.

--

A Little Slice of 2077 by Nebulad (Fallout 4, Hancock/Sole, 1111 words):
“You’re gunna kill me, hollerin’ like that,” he said as he made his way down the stairs.
“You say that about everything I do,” she protested, still enchanted by whatever was inside the dome. She was clicking buttons frantically but he didn’t think she was getting anywhere.
“Kind of hoping if I go it’ll be because of a perfect ten,” he said, nudging her as he finally got down the stairs.
Nebulad’s OCs are always compelling and Audrey is no exception. Part of a series, but can definitely be enjoyed as a standalone, though I’d heartily recommend giving the whole thing a go anyway.

--

not your momma’s cooking by CopperCaravan (Fallout 4, Mac/Sole, 1019 words):
tumblr prompt fill: Mac & Cal + "You want me to do what?"
Cal has sorely missed good food and enlists MacCready in food prep.
Another author with great OCs! In which Cal harasses Mac into hunting some chickens and laments the difficulties of post-apocalyptic cooking.

--

The Proper Care and Feeding of Your Demonic Cultivator - An Artwork by Lasenby_Heathcote (The Untamed, Gen, N/A):

Jiang Yanli teaches Lan Wangji how to make soup.
Listen. I'm a sucker for the in-laws bonding, and this is very cute. That's it that's the rec.

--

Pumpkin Cravings by cassowarykisses (Hiveswap, Gen, 1264 words):

Joey's been having trouble finding food to eat since she landed on Alternia. Xefros decides to cook her something.

In which Xefros discovers strange facts about aliens and puts his butler training to good use. Nice friendship fluff that doesn’t quite let you forget life’s been kind of a dick to these kids.

--

Rice Paper by greenkangaroo (Naruto, Gen, 877 words):
If you leave a secret in the box just outside their compound's back door, an Akimichi will eat it, written on rice paper.
This one is a bit of a different take on the prompt, but I couldn’t not include it. A very cool piece of worldbuilding about the Akimichi Clan the kind of which I wish we had in canon.

--

Taste Challenge by Maldoror_Chant (One Piece, Gen, 6378 words):
Sanji didn't wonder why he gave himself the challenge. It didn't matter why. ‘Why’ was probably covered by one-upping the bloody swordsman, and maybe there were other reasons - stranger reasons - but that was the only one that really counted, right? It was decided. He was going to get Zoro to appreciate - no, love Sanji's food. If Sanji couldn't do it, then he wasn't a true sea-cook after all.
There is an accidental, additional theme to my One Piece recs and that theme is: Sanji & Zoro nakamaship. In this one, Sanji’s competitiveness gets just a little bit ahead of him, and a lot of delicious, delicious recipes are introduced in the process.

You're not alone, you know. by dedicatedfollower467 (Homestuck, Gen, 1203 words):

Jane tries to keep Dirk's head screwed on straight, and despite himself, he really appreciates it.
Just some friendship fluff.

Very nice post-canon hurt/comforty fluff! I have a huge soft spot for friendship between the Alpha Kids and this one was an instant fave and also kinda made me crave meat pies.

Not Epilogues compliant, but do watch out for (very vague) spoilers in the author's note.
