Some Dragonlance daemon headcanons I initially shared for this year’s Snowflake Challenge! I’ve been jotting them down whenever I’ve needed a quick and easy distraction to go with my series reread, so they’re a bit of a mess, but I still stand by them.

Post self-recs for at least three fanworks that you created. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

i think the allosaurus broke out again (Zoo Tycoon, Gen, 2066 words): once upon a time, I got to write a Zoo Tycoon fic for an exchange, and it was fantastic. You really don’t need to know anything about Zoo Tycoon to read this one, and I heartily recommend you go read it anyway—I like to think it’s just as much fun to read as it was to write.

Punching boulders (Fire Emblem Fates, Gen, 100 words): the first drabble I wrote for drabblesoup, and still my favourite one. It’s short, to the point, and it still delivers.

And in the spirit of reccing things I had a blast with, I’m currently having a lot of fun relearning how to draw through homestuck/pokemon headcanons.

Promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them.
  • birdstudies (also here as an actual website) is pretty much exactly what it says on the tin: daily bird drawings with accompanying blurb. Really pretty and informative, and always nice to see on my feed.
  • drabblesoup is a weekly drabble (exactly 100 words) challenge with no actual deadline. Lots of cool fic to read, and plenty of prompts to chose from if you want to jump in!
  • I love bingo communities in general, but genprompt bingo gets all my love for being low-pressure and allowing my sex-repulsed, romance-bored aroace ass to get a card without having to burn all my exclusions on relationship stuff.

Share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much.

FFX-2 gets a bad rap, but I’ve always enjoyed Yuna’s speech to Nooj. ‘We have no choice but to go along with this terrible terrible plan’ is a really common trope, and it’s not like there’s no value in acknowledging that sometimes all your options really do suck and you still have to pick one, but it’s so rarely done in a way that doesn't feel forced to me, and it’s nice for once to have a character go ‘nope, screw it, I’ve been down this road before and it blows’.

It’s also just a really good conclusion to Yuna’s character arc, from being willing to sacrifice herself for the sake of the world to talking Nooj out of a similarly self-destructive plan.

Rec at least three fanworks that you didn’t create.

I completely failed to keep up with this year’s Snowflake Challenge, but it’s never too late for recs, so here’s three of my faves from last year:

And Straight On 'Til Morning
by Selkit (Until Dawn, Gen, 3004 words)

"Jess and Matt make the trek back to the lodge, step by halting step."

I'm very biased here, but this fic is everything I ever wanted from the UD fandom: friendship, post-trauma emotional support, and Jess & Matt bonding over creepy monsters and insecurities. Beautifully written, with some delightful character moments.

The Lazy Painter
by BlackMageofPhantasm (One Piece, Gen, 87003 words, WIP)

"Really, it was supposed to be an easy mission. They'd kill the pirates, capture the princess and then she'd go back to eating her rice crackers. But all of her allies had been defeated, leaving her alone. It would've been so easy to let her enemies go, but she wouldn't. She was a pro, and no matter who her targets were, she'd always complete the mission. Nothing would change that."

A One Piece canon divergence AU starting right after Little Garden where Miss Goldenweek sneaks aboard the Merry to finish her mission and promptly gets herself caught; featuring friendship, character development, and the Straw Hats being the weirdest pirates on the seas.
Also it's an epic length fic that adds backstory & character development to a minor female character without making it about romance and if that's not the dream idk what to tell you.

Professor Peach’s Adventures in Pokémon Recovery (Pokémon, Gen, N/A)

Absolutely lovely comics about Pokémon care and care through Pokémon; easily some of my favourite Pokémon headcanons out there.
