Today’s BG3 hijinks: killed a gnoll warleader (it was a really difficult fight! I’m actually proud of myself for this one!) by distracting her with a joke so good, she and her pack spent two turns laughing:
“30 seconds and a hungry maw” :D :D :D
... it was a DC 18 check. There were two other possible punchlines and I really, really want to believe choosing a better one would have lowered the DC. Don’t tell me if I'm wrong. Let me dream.
This got me to level 4, which means feats, which means too many choices, my god.
I went with the College of Swords spec because I liked the idea of a bard that's more duellist than spellcaster. It’s working wonders so far, and thanks to me investing in some good armor + with the right combo of support spells, she’s actually slightly better at tanking than Lae’zel at the moment and I really want to keep developing her that way. So after a solid hour of hemming and hawing, I gave her the Defensive Duellist feat which lets her add her prof bonus to AC as a reaction - fingers crossed I won’t regret not going for an Ability Improvement instead to boost her Dex to 18. Worst case scenario I can always respec.
Other feats that seem promising, for later:
Magic Initiate: Sorcerer - to get Shocking Grasp as a melee spell option.
Mobile - for the extra movement. We are Small, and it's a problem sometimes.
